The Arena Stage has launched its 12th annual Student Playwrights Project, a competition open to all students in fifth through 12th grades in the District and neighboring counties.
Winners will receive $250 and playwriting master classes and advice in script development from professional playwrights and directors. For the icing on the cake, they’ll also get to see their works performed by professional actors at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.
All submissions must include an Arena Stage cover sheet and plays must be an original 10-minute play. (Suggested length is 6-10 pages.) Winners will be notified by Arena Stage and the list of selected plays posted on the theater’s website in late January or early February.
Entrants must attend school in the District, Alexandria or one of the following counties: Loudon, Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles and Howard.
Entries must be delivered to Arena Stage by 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 2. For more guidelines, visit www.arenastage.org/education/education-programs.
