Hundreds of residents flooded a conference hall Thursday night at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Northwest Washington to get their questions answered about what’s in store for the site after personnel is relocated to Bethesda.
The 160-page site plan will be posted online here. The D.C. Office the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development is posting the plan in increments, beginning Friday.
Questions at Thursday night’s community meeting ranged from traffic issues to Minority Business Enterprise opportunities to potential retailers for the site.
Officials at the meeting said entrances to the base that are now closed will be opened up to help alleviate traffic congestion and that public transportation options are being considered in the site plan.
As for retail, it’s too early to say what will be at the site ,but officials said a grocery store is a must for the area. Other retail will hopefully be smaller, mom-and-pop businesses, they said.
