This week, three more cases of the antibiotic-resistant strain of staphylococcus were confirmed in Anne Arundel schools, and one additional case was found in a Howard school, officials said.
In Anne Arundel, Severna Park High School has had four cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; Old Mill High School, two cases; and Ruth Parker Eason School in Millersville, one case.
“We?ve just had these cases confirmed, but they?re all cases that were reported in September,” said Elin Jones, spokeswoman for the Anne Arundel Health Department.
The most recently confirmed cases were at Severna Park and Old Mill, she said.
Jones said the office hasn?t had any more reports of MRSA since the week of Oct. 14.
The one new case in Howard County came from Atholton High School.
The Howard County Public School System has confirmed six MRSA cases since the beginning of the school year, school system spokeswoman Patti Caplan said.
Other confirmed cases were at Glenwood Middle, Wilde Lake High and Harper?s Choice Middle schools in Columbia and Marriotts Ridge High School in Marriottsville.
