Late registration: Kanye West misses petition deadline for spot on South Carolina presidential ballot

Ye it ain’t so.

Kanye West missed a Monday afternoon deadline to submit the 10,000 signatures necessary to appear on South Carolina’s presidential ballot in November, effectively ending his chances to be a third-party upstart in the Palmetto State, according to the Post and Courier.

The Late Registration rapper held a unique rally in Charleston on Sunday, sporting a bulletproof vest with pepper spray attached to it and “2020” shaved into his head, in order to boost the sign-up effort. During the event, West made headlines for saying that abolitionist Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves” but rather “just had the slaves go work for other white people.”

Although he didn’t meet the signature deadline to get on South Carolina’s ballot, he could appear on the ballot in November if he is nominated by one of the state’s 10 certified political parties, although it is unclear if he would make such an attempt.

West, who is married to reality TV star Kim Kardashian, did receive a spot on the ballot in Oklahoma as an independent after filling out the paperwork and paying a $35,000 filing fee.
