Two men picking up trash from a median near Waldorf were killed when a sport utility vehicle driven by a Prince George’s County man went off the highway and hit them.
Three contract workers for the State Highway Administration were picking up trash off state Route 228 in Charles County when a car struck two of them. The crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Eric Diggs of the Maryland State Police said.
Police believe the driver, Yuri Vielot Jr., of Hyattsville, fell asleep before the crash. Vielot had not been charged by Thursday evening and the state’s attorney will determine any charges against him, Diggs said.
The names of the workers were not released because their families had not been notified.
