House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes was the subject of a satirical piece from The Onion on Tuesday.
The piece, titled “Devin Nunes Receives $4.5 Million From Donor On Condition He’ll Just Retire On It And Never Show His Face Again,” is a humorous commentary on the California Republican’s re-election campaign.
In the story, a fictional David Heyward donates $4.5 million on the condition that he “never show his face again.”
“No questions asked, just cash the check and go do something—anything—else,” the faux 57-year-old says, adding that his Republican friends were ready to contribute money as well to “secure ironclad assurance that Nunes would never again speak on the record or be seen in public.”
Nunes is up for re-election this year and is experiencing a fundraising upswing.
On the Left, Nunes has been reviled for being closely aligned with President Trump and his efforts to investigate alleged FISA surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign and possible bias in the Justice Department and FBI.
In early February, on the day the House intel majority saw their memo outlining alleged abuses of secret surveillance by the FBI and Justice Department in the Trump-Russia investigation, The Onion also mocked Nunes with a piece titled, “‘Aha!’ Shouts Devin Nunes Pulling Back Shower Curtain In Hopes Of Revealing Hidden FBI Agent.”
The satirical website also featured a Nunes photo with the caption, “Breaking: Nunes Memo Exposes Deep Bias, Corruption In Devin Nunes.”
