A Metrobus driver was charged with negligent homicide after the bus he was driving struck and killed two Alexandria women in downtown D.C.
Victor Z. Kolako, 53, of Southeast D.C., was driving northbound on Seventh Avenue NW and turning left onto Pennsylvania Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the bus failed to yield to the women, D.C. police said. The women, Sally McGee and Martha S. Schoenborn, were in the crosswalk on Pennsylvania and had the right of way, police said.
McGee died on the scene. Schoenborn, 59, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Both women lived in the 3200 block of Ravensworth Place in Alexandria. Police didn’t know the age of McGee.
Kolako was arrested and charged with two counts of negligent homicide.
