State of the Union 2023: Rep. Juan Ciscomani to deliver GOP’s Spanish rebuttal to State of the Union

Freshman Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) will deliver the Spanish-language GOP response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address next week.

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced his choice of Ciscomani, whose family history of immigrating to the United States he said was “nothing short of inspirational,” in a Thursday statement.

‘ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL’: REP. JUAN CISCOMANI SAYS MAYORKAS HAS ‘UTTERLY FAILED’ IN BORDER CRISIS

“While Democrats’ woke politics would have you believe the worst in our nation, Juan and his family are a shining reminder of what we look like at our best,” McCarthy said. “They are the American Dream, and Congress is all the better because of the unique perspectives and lived experiences that Juan brings to this institution. I look forward to hearing his response where I know he will share with viewers Republicans’ Commitment to America to empower the American people and hold the Biden administration accountable.”

Ciscomani said he is “humbled and honored by the opportunity” and that his message will be that “the American Dream is a dream worth fighting for.”

“The people of my district in Arizona and Americans across our country want accountability, responsibility, and sensibility restored in our nation’s capital,” he said in a statement. “As part of the new House majority, I look forward to working with my colleagues to secure our southern border, strengthen the economy, and do the work the American people expect of us.”

Ciscomani was elected to the House in November, beating his Democratic opponent by just over 1 point. He was born in Mexico and raised in Tucson. During the contentious House speaker election, he gave a floor speech in support of McCarthy and later earned a spot on the powerful Appropriations Committee.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former White House press secretary under President Donald Trump, will deliver the main Republican rebuttal.
