The McDonald’s cult classic McRib is coming back, and some people are loving it.
The fast food giant announced on Friday that the pork-based BBQ sandwich will be available to purchase nationwide on Dec. 2. The topic quickly set social media abuzz.
“Good morning to everyone who asked how i was doing last week and to everyone else…McRib is back 12.2,” McDonald’s said on Twitter. “Nationwide for the first time since 2012 if u can believe it.”

The seasonal pork sandwich has a storied history dating back to 1982. The fast food chain revives the sandwich every year, although it is done in a limited fashion, making the menu item a hot commodity. Although McDonald’s revived the McRib at about 10,000 of its 14,000 U.S. locations last year, this will be the first national rollout since 2012, according to CNBC.
McDonald’s introduced a McRib Locator app to help people hunt down which stores had the product in stock, given the elusive nature of the sandwich and the previous lack of nationwide availability.
“The McRib has been a beloved menu item at McDonald’s since its inception nearly 40 years ago,” Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s vice president of menu innovation, said in a statement to Business Insider. “There’s nothing quite like the taste of the McRib. To our customers, it’s become more than a delicious, saucy moment… it’s a season, and it’s taking the internet by storm. That’s why this year, we’re proud to serve the McRib nationwide for everyone to enjoy.”
On Twitter, some users reacted with joy while others took the opportunity to knock the pork sandwich.

The McRib is disgusting in a way that few other fast foods are disgusting and I am disgusted that you pigs even pretend to like it.
