Piers Morgan promises ‘most explosive interview’ of year with Trump face-off

Piers Morgan teased what he promised to be “the most explosive interview of the year” with former President Donald Trump.

A 30-second promo shared on Wednesday shows the English broadcaster confronting Trump over his claims of a stolen election in 2020. Sweeping music plays throughout.

“It was a free and fair election. You lost,” says Morgan, sitting face-to-face with Trump.

Trump is then seen saying, “Only a fool would think that.”

The video cuts to Morgan asking Trump if the former president thinks he’s a fool. “I do now,” Trump says.

Morgan apparently keeps the pressure on, saying at one point Trump has not produced “hard evidence,” likely in reference to his claims of widespread fraud.

The promo also shows Trump saying he doesn’t think Morgan is “real,” then calling to finish the interview before the clip cuts to Trump saying, “turn the camera off” and walking away. “Very dishonest,” Trump also says.

Audio released by the Trump team later in the day indicates the framing of the promo was misleading and that the interview ended amicably with Trump thanking Morgan, not walking off as has been reported by some media outlets. Trump’s “very dishonest” comment came in response to Morgan dragging on the interview after he said he was wrapping up. And the comment about turning the camera off happened after the pleasantries.

The interview, which took place in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, will air on Morgan’s new show Piers Morgan Uncensored on April 25.

The promo says “only on Talk TV,” but a post Morgan wrote for the New York Post said the program will air every weeknight “on networks across the globe, including Fox Nation, Talk TV in the UK, and Sky News Australia.”

In his column, Morgan said he also blamed Trump’s refusal to admit defeat in the 2020 election for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. ”Then you’re a FOOL!” Trump said, according to Morgan’s account. “And you haven’t studied!”

In addition, Trump called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell “stupid” and his vice president, Mike Pence, “foolish and weak,” Morgan recalled.
