The View host Joy Behar ripped into British journalist Victoria Mather, who called Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, “five clicks up from trailer trash.”
“Meghan Markle is still a duchess, and this woman is going through people’s garbage to find dish and dirt on people,” Behar said Tuesday on the show. “If anybody’s trailer trash, it’s her.
“That was really shocking,” she added about Mather’s comment. “What an idiot. Stupid woman.”
The journalist caused a stir Saturday after she did an interview with MSNBC about the decision the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made to quit as senior royals.
“I think what has really, really upset the British public is that Meghan Markle, who many people consider as only, you know, five clicks up from trailer trash, has actually tried to disrespect the queen,” Mather said. “And the queen is the most respected person, most respected woman, in the world.”
The MSNBC host Lindsey Reiser quickly ended the interview after the comment.
The royal couple announced in January that they were stepping back from the royal family. Following the announcement, the majority of the British public wanted the pair stripped of their royal titles. The couple has decided to discontinue use of their royal titles with Prince Harry now being referred to as simply “Harry.”
