Clinton reboots iconic ‘Daisy’ ad to warn against Trump

The Clinton campaign unveiled a new ad Monday featuring the same actress from Lyndon B. Johnson’s infamous 1964 “Daisy” commercial, which warned that the election of GOP nominee Barry Goldwater would lead to nuclear holocaust.

The new Clinton spot, which is also titled “Daisy,” similarly warned that GOP nominee Donald Trump would likely cause a nuclear war should he be entrusted to lead the nation.

“Over the course of the campaign, Donald Trump has discussed the use of nuclear weapons recklessly, advocating nuclear proliferation and expressing disappointed incredulity that they aren’t used,” the Clinton campaign said in a statement made available to the Washington Examiner. “He has proven just how reckless he would be when it comes to these powerful weapons of mass destruction.”

The actress in the updated “Daisy” ad, Monique Luiz, warned that Trump’s “temperament and rhetoric” suggests he would likely jump at the chance to start a nuclear war with another country. Luiz encouraged voters to go out and support Clinton.

“Donald Trump has displayed a reckless disregard for the dangers of nuclear proliferation, saying countries like Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia may need nuclear weapons,” the Democratic nominee’s campaign said Monday.

The Clinton “Daisy” ad was released not long after a similarly themed ad, titled “Silo,” argued voters should be terrified of the idea of Trump having access to the nuclear codes. The “Silo” ad featured a man named Bruce Blair who served once as a nuclear missile launch officer.

“If the president gave the order, we had to launch the missiles. That would be it,” Blair said in the ad. “I prayed that call would never come. Self-control may be all that keeps these missiles from flying.”

The commercial then played clips of Trump claiming in an interview that he wants to “be unpredictable.” The ad also showed a clip of Trump saying he “[loves] war.”
