Democratic Iowa gubernatorial candidate Nate Boulton suspended his campaign on Thursday following allegations of sexual misconduct from three women.
“Today, I am suspending my campaign for governor. I want to thank all my supporters for their hard work this past year,” Boulton, a state senator, said in a statement posted to Twitter.

Boulton’s announcement comes after one women told the Des Moines Register he grabbed her buttocks on multiple occasions at a bar in 2015. The two other women claim Boulton inappropriately rubbed his body on theirs more than 10 years ago, per the newspaper Wednesday.
“These last 48 hours have been trying. I again offer an apology to those whom I have harmed in any way,” Boulton added in a longer statement.
“It is my hope there is some positive that can come from this moment as we strive to be the better people we can be in the coming days, weeks, months, and years. I know that will be my task moving on from here,” he continued.
Boulton was set to contest the Democratic nomination in a June 5 primary race against five other Democrats.
The successful Democratic candidate will challenge incumbent Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds in November.
