A wind advisory was posted today for the Washington area in advance of gusts that could reach 55 mph in the region.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory in effect from 3 p.m. to midnight. Forecasters said the strongest winds would be late this afternoon through the evening.
A tornado watch was posted until 8 p.m. Friday for the city’s southern suburbs and areas south of Washington, including Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.
The District and its immediate suburbs weren’t included in the tornado watch.
