Report: Sports icons to be winners for Trump at GOP convention

The Republican National Convention may be the hottest ticket this summer, but for sports fans not political junkies.

For months, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has promised an action-packed four-day event. But on Tuesday, a campaign aide to Trump confirmed to Bloomberg some of the biggest names in sports will attend the July 18-21 event in Cleveland, Ohio.

The former reality TV star reportedly pulled a few strings and snagged former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, retired Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight and NASCAR chief Brian France for the convention festivities.

But the list does not stop there. Organizers said they are working to get other celebrities and famous athletes at the convention.

Trump later denied that Tyson was ever invited.

“Iron Mike Tyson was not asked to speak at the Convention though I’m sure he would do a good job if he was,” Trump tweeted Tuesday evening. “The media makes everything up.”

Although Trump starred as the head of former NBC show “The Apprentice,” Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has significantly more celebrity endorsements than the New York real estate mogul, who many in Hollywood know of, but do not support.

The four men named as attendees have all endorsed Trump.
