Donald Trump tweets ‘prayers and condolences’ after shootings

Donald Trump tweeted Friday morning that his “prayers and condolences” are with the families reeling from the violence that has gripped the nation, after 12 Dallas police officers were shot in a targeted attack Thursday and two black men were gunned down in high-profile police incidents this week.

“Prayers and condolences to all of the families who are so thoroughly devastated by the horrors we are all watching take place in our country,” the presumed Republican presidential nominee wrote on Twitter.

Trump had yet to directly address the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, La., on Tuesday and Philando Castile on Wednesday in Falcon Heights, Minn. His tweet Friday morning came after a night of unfolding horror when a protest over the two men’s deaths gave way to sniper fire directed at police. Twelve officers were shot in Dallas, including five fatally. Two civilians were also wounded.

Trump is slated to make a speech in Miami Friday afternoon in which he could address police-related shootings and gun violence.
