According to CNN, McCain has 680 delegates, Romney has 270, and Huckabee has 176. But the results CNN reports from California – 116 delegates for McCain; 3 for Romney – are incomplete. Give or take a few, California’s delegates will end up splitting 164 for McCain to 9 for Romney, which means McCain will have no fewer than 728 delegates when all of the Super Tuesday delegates are apportioned. All of the congressional district results from states like Tennessee and Georgia have not yet been reported, so McCain actually has more than 728 delegates. But assuming McCain only has 728 delegates, then at the very most he would need to win 45 percent of the remaining 1,035 delegates to become the nominee. If Romney’s total delegate tally through last night ends up at 300, then he would need to win 86 percent of the remaining delegates to become the nominee. It’s all over.
