Moody’s outlook for D.C. area still negative

Moody’s isn’t optimistic when it comes to the economic future of the Washington area. The investor’s service reconfirmed the AAA bond ratings of the states of Maryland and Virginia as well as a host of local jurisdictions, including Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Baltimore counties, as well as Alexandria and Rockville. But Moody’s also left the states and local jurisdictions on a “negative outlook” since the two states and Washington area are so heavily dependent on federal workers and federal spending. — Liz Essley
