Anne Arundel needs 40 more election judges to staff its polling stations during Tuesday?s primary.
The county uses nearly 2,000 judges for its 189 precincts, but some judges are backing out of their commitment.
County Election Director Joseph Torre said Tuesday that he needed at least 20 Democratic and 20 Republican judges to ensure enough staff is available for the primary.
“We can?t do this without them,” Torre said.
“We have 189 locations ? we have to have you.”
Despite the shortage, Torre said recruiting has gonewell and all equipment will be ready in time for the elections.
He said a partnership with Anne Arundel Community College may yield enough judges to fill vacant positions.
