Police identify motorcyclists who died in Prince William crashes

Prince William County police have identified the motorcycle drivers who died in crashes on Joplin Road over the weekend.

Christopher Lee Capo, 34, of Dumfries, was killed Saturday. Darren Mitchell Kirby, 22, of Stafford, was killed Sunday in a separate incident, police said.

Saturday morning, police responded to the first incident at Joplin Road and Park Headquarters Road. An investigation found that a 17-year-old boy driving a 2007 Volkswagen Golf tried to make a U-turn and crossed in front of the motorcyle. Capo unsuccessfully tried to avoid the crash.

Capo was wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. There were no other reported injuries.

Sunday evening, police responded to the second crash at Joplin Road and Aden Road. An investigation found that Kirby crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposite lane and into the path of a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada.

Kirby was wearing his helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 74-year-old man driving the Oldsmobile wasn’t injured, but a 68-year-old woman in the car sustained minor injuries.

Speed, alcohol and drugs are not factors in either crash, police said.
