AOC quotes Nazi sympathizer favorably after Trump compares the two

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to President Trump comparing her to Eva Perón by quoting the Nazi sympathizer favorably.

“I know that, like every woman of the people, I have more strength than I appear to have,” the New York Democrat tweeted, a quote from Perón.

Ocasio-Cortez followed up the initial tweet with another quote from Perón: “I had watched for many years and seen how a few rich families held much of Argentina’s wealth and power in their hands. So the government brought in an eight hour working day, sickness pay and fair wages to give poor workers a fair go.”

Trump said in an interview for a book by Tim Alberta that he predicted the rise of the freshman congresswoman after seeing her on television.

“I called her Eva Perón,” Trump said. “I said, ‘That’s Eva Perón. That’s Evita.'”

Ocasio-Cortez received criticism for seemingly praising Perón, including from left-wing activists who pointed out Perón was a Nazi sympathizer.

Perón, the first lady of Argentina, and her husband Gen. Juan D. Perón, Argentinian dictator, helped Nazis in the fallout of World War II into Argentina, profiting from their efforts.

German journalist Gaby Weber reported the extensive financial connection between the Peróns and Nazis, estimating the couple helped launder “well over a billion dollars” in assets into Argentina.

Eva Perón and her husband helped Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann and Nazi physician Josef “Angel of Death” Mengele to find safe haven in Argentina.

In addition to her Nazi ties, Perón was known for her charisma and is still celebrated by many in Argentina.
