Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church announced they would be open for victims of Tropical Depression Imelda.
“Lakewood Church is open to anyone in need of assistance because of the flooding,” the church said Thursday on Twitter. “We are located at 3700 SW Freeway. Lakewood Church is open now.”

Lakewood faced blowback in 2017 when it took public pressure for Osteen to publicly announce that the doors of his multimillion-dollar facility were open to Hurricane Harvey victims.
Osteen, 56, claimed the doors had always been open to the public and that flooding had slowed things down.
The Lakewood Church is 606,000 square feet and has the capacity to seat over 16,000 people. The center used to be the home of the NBA team, the Houston Rockets. Imelda is already causing significant flooding in the Houston area.
