Musk poll asks if Twitter San Francisco HQ should become homeless shelter

Should Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco be turned into a homeless shelter?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was set on joining the social media platform’s board of directors after becoming the company’s biggest shareholder — he backed out over the weekend, according to Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal — asked the question to his 81.2 million followers late Saturday with a nod to how Twitter is still allowing employees to work remotely.

“Convert Twitter SF HQ to homeless shelter since no one shows up anyway,” he tweeted along with a poll prompting people to click “Y” for yes or “N” for no.

With the 24-hour poll expired, more than 1.9 million votes had been cast. More than 91.3% of respondents voted in favor of the shelter.

Twitter began to reopen its offices around the world on March 15 after two years of being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but an email from Agrawal to staffers said they still have the option to work remotely.
