Gohmert: Trump ‘courageous’ for letting Cruz speak at RNC

Donald Trump displayed courage by inviting Ted Cruz to speak at the Republican National Convention, according to Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas.

In a Fox Business interview, Gohmert also described the role he played in initiating the meeting between Trump and the Texas senator, and added that we “all know” what will happen if Hillary Clinton is elected president.

“I haven’t wholeheartedly endorsed Donald Trump, but he’s shown me a lot,” Gohmert said. “When he came and met with us in the House … It was there I [said], ‘It’s your convention, but you and Ted worked well together before it got so nasty.'”

“I asked him if he would sit down with Ted one-on-one, and he did. He didn’t have to do that. I had no idea that when he sat down with him, he would ask him to speak even though Ted had not totally endorsed him,” Gohmert said.

Cruz received an invitation to speak at the convention after meeting with Trump in the first week of July, and Cruz will speak Wednesday evening. But Gohmert said that even he does not know what Cruz will say, nor does Trump’s team.

“He’s been an ally and a brother in the trenches fighting for our country in Congress, but I don’t know what he’s going to say,” Gohmert said. “That’s a very courageous man to let Ted get up there and speak… He doesn’t know what he’s going to say.”

He said Republicans need to find a way to work together and ensure Clinton doesn’t win the White House.

“We all know what happens if Hillary Clinton wins this election,” Gohmert added. “There is so much at stake.”
