Chicago shootings injure at least 15 people and leave two people dead

Two fatal shootings in Chicago on Sunday night wounded at least 15 people and killed two others.

Officers responded to reports of three black men allegedly opening fire on a crowd around 11 p.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the southwest side of the city. The men reportedly “emerged from an alley” and fired shots in the crowd, though police said they have not uncovered a motive.

One woman was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center after being shot in the chest. At least 10 other victims, ranging from 21 to 57 years old, were injured, but are said to be in fair or good condition.

In a separate shooting, one woman was killed and five men were injured after people in a black SUV drove near where they were standing on East 71st Street and opened fire around 8:45 p.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the university’s medical center after being shot six times. The men who were shot ranged in age from 15 to 21, but are in stable condition, police said in an incident report shared with the Washington Examiner.

Over the weekend, at least 74 total people were shot across 46 incidents in Chicago from 6 p.m. on Friday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. Six people were fatally shot.

Police do not have suspects in custody for either of the two most recent shootings, and have not uncovered any motives.
