Maxine Waters defends Frederica Wilson: This White House ‘transforms everyone into liars’

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., tweeted in defense of Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., Saturday morning after as Wilson faces backlash from the White House on her claim that the president was unkind during a call the widow of fallen soldier Army Sgt. La David Johnson killed in Niger this month.

“What is it about the Trump White House that transforms everyone into liars?” Waters, a vocal critic of Trump, tweeted. “General [John] Kelly has lied. Rep. Wilson has conducted herself w/ dignity. The only empty barrel I see is the one in the Oval Office.”

The White House has pushed back on Wilson’s allegations, even as Cowanda Jones-Johnson, the mother of La David Johnson, backed up Wilson’s claim, saying, “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband.”

Waters contended that if the family of a fallen soldier feels as if she was “disrespected,” then she was “disrespected.”

Trump continued his war of words with Wilson in a tweet Saturday morning, saying the “wacky” lawmaker is “killing” the Democratic Party. That was after Wilson said the White House is “full of white supremacists.”

Waters wrapped up her tweet storm with a call for White House chief of staff John Kelly to “apologize” after offering a defense of the president and condemning Wilson, but in doing so appears to have gotten some of his facts wrong.
