Big ol’ ‘whoops’ in Ward 2 council race

Sure, we all want a more open government when five of the 13 D.C. Council members have been hit by scandal over the past year. But Ward 2 candidate Fiona Greig went above and beyond open government laws when she accidentally filed notes on who she hopes to raise money from this election cycle, the City Paper has reported.

Along with her required list of donors to her exploratory committee Greig filed with the Office of Campaign Finance, she filed “names of potential donors and other people she needs to know, along with little notes about some of them,” columnist Alan Suderman reports. The notes described potential deep pockets as “super wealthy” and “owns law firm.”

The people listed include Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein and at-large candidate Sekou Biddle.

The candidate told City Paper she was embarrassed about the mistake and that the notes were “chicken scratch” written by a campaign volunteer.

Greig is running against longtime councilman Jack Evans.
