Alan Dershowitz: Someone ‘leaked’ info about James Comey for fear that watchdog report would be changed

Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz suggested that someone leaked information critical of former FBI Director James Comey out of fear that it would be changed.

In an appearance on “Fox and Friends” Thursday, Dershowitz reacted to a report that the inspector general for the Department of Justice found that Comey at times defied his superiors while he was leading the FBI.

“Somebody leaked it because they’re afraid it’s going to get changed,” he said. “They want people like us to see the original.”

ABC News reported Wednesday that a draft report from the Justice Department’s internal watchdog described Comey’s behavior as “insubordinate.”

The inspector general’s report, which has not yet been released, is expected to detail the mistakes the FBI and Justice Department made while investigating Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Dershowitz said Inspector General Michael Horowitz needs to hold on to the original draft of his report because the public is entitled to know about potential changes that were made.

“If there’s something negative about Comey and Comey’s lawyer comes and says, “No, this isn’t accurate. Here’s proof it isn’t accurate,’ it should be changed. That’s due process. But if it’s changed for political reasons, that’s very different,” Dershowitz said.
