So Metro’s newest board member doesn’t actually live in Ward 2, as D.C. Council documents show and as The Washington Examiner reported in today’s paper.
A resolution from Chairman Kwame Brown appointing Thomas J. Bulger to the seat lists Ward 2 under his address. But that address on 17th Street Northwest is Bulger’s office for his lobbying firm Government Relations Inc. Bulger actually lives in Ward 4.
So that means his council representative is Muriel Bowser, who was also just appointed to Metro’s board of directors. And Metro’s other representative on the board, Tom Downs, also lives in Ward 4. That’s three for three, folks. One other seat remains vacant.
Previously, D.C. residents had a bit more representation with Ward 6’s representative (Tommy Wells) on the Metro board and an at-large councilman (Michael Brown). But where does Brown live? You got it. Ward 4.
Ironically, despite such a glut of representation, Ward 4 doesn’t have enough Metro access to allow Bulger to take the service from his house. No buses, no Metro stop, Bulger told The Examiner. He said he drives to his office.
But he says he takes Metro every day, once at his office. “I have meetings all over the city and get to places served by the Metro instead of taking a cab,” he said.
