Hillary Clinton revealed on Sunday that former President Bill Clinton could play a major role in her administration should she become president, and said he would be in charge of spurring the economy back to life.
“My husband, who I’m going to put in charge of revitalizing the economy, cause, you know he knows how to do it,” Mrs. Clinton said Sunday during a rally in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. “And especially in places like coal country and inner cities and other parts of our country that have really been left out.”
Bill Clinton’s potential role in a Hillary Clinton White House has been the subject of much speculation. Few expect the former president, known for an inability to sit still for long, to simply oversee a couple of pet projects in the manner of previous presidential spouses.
Hillary’s assertion that the economy needs revitalizing, however, could provide a talking point for Republicans to argue that they should take a turn governing. While the unemployment rate has fallen to 5 percent, growth over the past two quarters has averaged just under 1 percent.
