Congressional backers of Donald Trump have asked him to apologize for opposing a judge of Mexican descent who is overseeing a Trump University lawsuit.
“That message has been loud and clear from a lot of us, yes,” Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., told the Washington Examiner after speaking to the Trump campaign.
Perdue said Trump has not promised to apologize, but said, “my suspicion is we’ll see a reasonable position coming out on this.”
Perdue called Trump’s comments about federal district judge Gonzalo P. Curiel “terrible,” and a “mistake.”
“It’s not representative of him, or his campaign or the Republican Party and I’m hoping we’ll see that corrected,” Perdue said. “Sometimes people walk that back and they tend to explain it a bit more over time.”
