SG Interests files new drill permit application

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Houston-based SG Interests has filed its second application with federal agencies for a permit to drill in the Thompson Divide in western Colorado.

SG executive Robbie Guinn tells the Aspen Daily News (http://bit.ly/Q5bal5 ) that the oil and gas company is working on seven more applications to be filed in coming months. He says the applications will be for a total of nine wells off of seven pads in the Thompson Divide, which includes 220,000 acres of federal land from Carbondale to McClure Pass crossing Pitkin, Gunnison, Garfield, Mesa and Delta counties.

Conservationists want the Thompson Divide protected from drilling. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado is working on legislation to prevent future mineral leasing in the area and to offer companies reimbursement if they trade in existing leases.
