Rep. Elijah Cummings is recovering in a Baltimore hospital after undergoing heart surgery.
Cummings, D-Md., needed a “minimally invasive” procedure on Wednesday, according to a statement from his office.
He’s scheduled to spend the next few days in Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he had a surgery known as a transarterial aortic valve replacement. The procedure is meant to treat aortic stenosis, which is a narrowing of the aortic valve.
“The congressman will remain in the hospital for a few days and will return to his normal schedule thereafter,” the statement read.
