UPDATED: Manhunt underway for teenager after alleged Valentine’s Day slaying of mother and 6-year-old brother

Police in Virginia are searching for a teenager they say killed his mother and 6-year-old brother before wounding his father.

Levi Norwood, 17, allegedly shot and killed both his mother Jen Norwood, 34, and brother Wyatt at their family home in Fauquier County, Virginia, on Friday. The father, Joshua Norwood, told investigators that when he came home at around 6 p.m. and found the bodies, Levi began firing at him and left him wounded.

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office said Norwood should be considered armed and dangerous and warned residents in the area, located about 50 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., to shelter in place.

The sheriff’s office said there is “a very large law enforcement presence” in the region as investigators try to locate the teenager. The Virginia State Police and officers from Culpeper and Fairfax counties are also helping with the manhunt.

It is not clear if Norwood is still in the area as police believe he may have stolen a red Toyota sedan overnight.

Fauquier County Public Schools has canceled all sports and activities through Tuesday because of the manhunt.

UPDATE: Noorwood was arrested and charged with murder after he was caught allegedly shoplifting at a Target in Durham, North Carolina. The red Toyota he is accused of stealing was also found at the store, although no firearms were recovered.
