President Trump complimented Sen. Roy Moore, R-Ala., Wednesday after acting Sen. Luther Strange, whom Trump had endorsed, was dealt a devastating loss in the primary runoff Tuesday.
“Spoke to Roy Moore of Alabama last night for the first time. Sounds like a really great guy who ran a fantastic race. He will help to #MAGA!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning after congratulating Moore late Tuesday.

Trump had backed Strange as the GOP candidate that will be up for the special election for Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ seat. Strange was also endorsed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the GOP establishment.
Trump stumped for Strange at a campaign rally in Alabama last Friday and even said he “might have made a mistake” by picking Strange over Moore, an Alabama Supreme Court justice.
The special election will take place Dec. 12.
