A new ad from a Republican congressional candidate in North Carolina features Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
Michele Nix, who served as the vice chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party and is now running to replace fellow Republican the late Rep. Walter Jones, put Ocasio-Cortez front and center attacking the Green New Deal in her first campaign ad.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: she has the media, she has the followers, but bless her heart, she has some terrible ideas,” Nix says. “Guaranteeing government jobs for some, while killing small-town jobs for others. Her ‘green deal’ is a bad deal for North Carolina.”
“I’ll stand up to socialism. Congress needs a good, strong dose of conservative, mature common sense,” the ad concludes.
The ad comes out after Ocasio-Cortez’s popularity took a hit in her home state, partly due to being seen as the leading figure resulting in Amazon pulling out of its deal to build a second headquarters in Queens. A Gallup poll released last week put Ocasio-Cortez’s unfavorable numbers up by 15 percentage points compared to last September.
Nix is running in a crowded primary field with more than a dozen candidates set to battle out the Republican nomination for the seat. The first primary race is set for April 30 and the likely run-off is scheduled for July 9.
