A passenger in a rapper’s car was arrested on gun charges after driving through a rally for President Trump in California.
Marcelo Almanzar, who is the cousin of rapper Cardi B, was traveling in a car with Cardi B’s husband, rapper Offset, through a Trump rally in Beverly Hills on Saturday. A passerby told local police that Almanzar “pointed a weapon from a vehicle at him.”
The Beverly Hills Police Department released a statement saying officers detained and released Offset but arrested and charged Almanzar with carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
“The passerby provided a license plate to the vehicle, and the vehicle was stopped by patrol units a short distance away. After the on scene investigation, the passenger in the vehicle was arrested. The victim of the crime did not desire to press charges for the pointing of the weapon,” the statement added.
Offset, who released a video of his interaction with the officers on Instagram, said he was attacked “by aggressive Trump supporters” while driving through the rally, according to his representative.
“Artist and Philanthropist Offset was detained by the Beverly Hills Police Department following an attack by aggressive Trump supporters,” the representative told PEOPLE. “He was released shortly thereafter. Offset thanks his fans for their support and wishes everyone peace and safety during these trying times. He encourages everyone to get out and vote because nothing changes if nothing changes.”
Thousands of Trump supporters gathered in Beverly Hills on Saturday, waving “Trump 2020” and “Thin Blue Line” flags. They gathered at the Beverly Hills sign on Santa Monica Boulevard before marching on Rodeo Drive chanting “USA USA USA,” according to Breitbart News.
