?Fresh? and ?lively? mark the duet choices at An die Musik

Dariusz Skoraczewski is one busy musician. As a member of the Monument Piano Trio, the artists in residence at An die Musik, this cello player also finds time to teach ? and perform as the BSO?s assistant principal cellist.

“I love the variety of this program,” Skoraczewski said in a voice soft with the intonations of his native Warsaw, Poland. “Each is challenging in its own particular way.”

The repertoire includes Chopin?s “Sonata for Cello” and “Piano Op. 65 in G minor,” a piece Skoraczewski considers “very beautiful, romantic and melodic.” Polish “Caprice for Cello Solo” is a virtuoso, short encore piece. Written by Grazyna Bacewicz, in 1949 the work features many folk elements, including a lively melody.

Skoraczewski has performed with numerous orchestras in the United States, including the Montgomery Symphony and the Alexandria Symphony.

It was in Montgomery that Dariusz Skoraczewski began playing with pianist Michael Adcock.

“As a pianist, I?m supposed to say the Chopin is my favorite piece in [this recital], he said. “But the Beethoven appeals to me a lot.”

The piece is Beethoven?s Variations on Mozart?s “Ein Madchen oder Weibchen” from “Die Zauberflote Op. 66” for cello and piano, the program?s opening piece, which he refers to as “very fresh.”
