Pelosi: ‘I almost cry’ when introduced as ‘most powerful woman’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she wishes she were not the “most powerful” woman in the country and that the fact nearly brings her to tears.

“I so wish — every time I get introduced as the most powerful woman, I almost cry because I wish that were not true,” the California Democrat told a reporter during her weekly press conference.

“I so wish we had a woman president of the United States, and we came very close to doing that, a woman who was better qualified than so many people have sought that office and even won it,” Pelosi added.

Pelosi went on to say that she believes the U.S. is ready for a female president and was surprised that a woman was tapped to lead the House of Representatives before a woman was elected to lead the nation.

The question that sparked Pelosi’s comments was about the recent news that Sen. Elizabeth Warren was dropping out of the 2020 presidential race.

Several media personalities, including the hosts on The View, expressed their belief that sexism was the primary reason Warren was not able to secure the nomination.

“Gender in this race, you know, that is the trap question for every woman,” Warren said when asked following her concession if gender played a role. “If you say, ‘Yeah, there was sexism in this race,’ everyone says, ‘Whiner,’ and, if you say, ‘No, there was no sexism,’ about a bazillion women think, ‘What planet do you live on?'”

President Trump dismissed the idea that sexism was to blame for Warren’s struggles and instead cited “lack of talent” and said he believes “people don’t like her.”
