‘Sorry’ Norwood gets life without parole

Brittany Norwood was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing her co-worker at a Bethesda yoga store. In November, Norwood was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Jayna Murray. Wiping tears from her eyes, Norwood said before Friday’s sentencing that she was blessed to have her own loving family and said she hopes the Murray family can forgive her some day. “I am truly sorry,” she said. But at a news conference after the sentencing, Jayna’s father, David, said Norwood’s comments were “too little, too late.” Murray’s body was found at the yoga store on March 12, 2011, lying in a pool of blood with at least 332 distinct injuries caused by multiple weapons, prosecutors said in their sentencing memo. Norwood, 29, lied to police, saying two masked men had attacked and sexually assaulted both Murray and herself. — Naomi Jagoda
