MinuteClinic, the retail health care division of CVS, and Northern Virginia’s Inova Health System are collaborating to give healthcare services running the gammut from treating the common cold to major surgery.
Under the agreement, Inova will collaborate with MinuteClinic’s medical directors, who may include Inova-affiliated family physicians, on patient education and care management. The two will also throw business each others’ way by informing “patients of the services each offers.” “Inova will accept patients who need a level of care that is not provided at MinuteClinic,” and the clinic will advertise Inova at its Northern Virginia locations, a press release announcing the partnership said.
The two companies also will combine their data on patients, with that patient’s permission. That will include medical history and visit summaries with other MinuteClinic and Inova locations in the region.
Inova’s six health care centers and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children provide emergency and urgent-care services, as well as occupational health services, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services and wellness classes.
MinuteClinic has 14 walk-in medical clinics inside some CVS pharmacy stores throughout Northern Virginia that are staffed by nurse practitioners.
