A 29-year-old Navy officer died on Sunday while taking part in a training exercise at a military base in Hawaii, according to the U.S. military.
Lt. j.g. Aaron Fowler became “unresponsive” while participating in training at the Marine Corps base located in Kaneohe Bay. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a statement from the U.S. Navy on Wednesday.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Aaron’s family and friends, and we join them in remembering and mourning this brave warrior,” Rear Adm. Joseph DiGuardo Jr., the commander of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, said in the statement.

“His decision to join the elite special operations community was a testament to the dedicated and selfless character he embodied and his legacy will endure in our ranks through those he inspired by his service,” DiGuardo said.
Fowler entered the service in 2012 and went on to be commissioned after he graduated in May 2018 from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, according to the statement.

Since January, Fowler had been assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit One, based in San Diego, California. The EOD unit clears “explosive hazards to provide access to denied areas” and aims to secure underwater areas, according to the statement.
