Linda Sarsour, one of the organizers behind the Women’s March and the “A Day Without a Woman” demonstration in New York City, was arrested with others Wednesday afternoon between Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue and Trump Hotel at Columbus Circle, which are four blocks apart.

Sarsour and a small group of women — Tamika Mallory, Carmen Perez and Bob Bland — were spotted on Wednesday being escorted away by New York City police officers. The women were detained for disorderly conduct after they refused to listen to police instructions to cease and desist, though New York Police Department has not confirmed the incident or whether they will be charged.

“Today, the national leaders of the Women’s March on Washington gathered with allies and those participating in the day’s actions for a show of solidarity and revolutionary love,” a representative for the Women’s March organization told the Hollywood Reporter. “After a peaceful protest in New York City in honor of A Day Without a Woman, 10 organizers were arrested by the New York City Police Department in an act of civil disobedience.”
Sarsour, a Palestinian-American, oversees the Arab American Association of New York and helped organize the Women’s March that took place in Washington, D.C., the day after President Trump’s inauguration.
Wednesday’s international strike today comes weeks after “A Day Without Immigrants,” which included legal and illegal immigrants going on strike in various cities to show the economic impact of what they contribute to the economy.
The women’s march on Wednesday was intentionally planned to correspond with International Women’s Day.
