Money will improve county’s water quality

Fifteen storm water management facilities will get upgrades thanks to $600,000 in funds from Gov. Martin O?Malley.

The money comes from the Transportation Enhancement Program and will go toward 13 facilities along Interstate 97 and two along Route 100.

The facilities will be reconstructed to meet current state requirements. The entire project costs $1.2 million, the remainder of which will be paid for by the State Highway Administration.

Storm water management facilities clean rainwater and runoff water before emptying into the watershed or water treatment facilities.

O?Malley and County Executive John R. Leopold said the improvements would improve the county?s water quality.
