Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer of former President Donald Trump during the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, had his law license in Washington, D.C., suspended on Wednesday.
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals made the decision following “consideration” of a June 24 order from the New York Supreme Court that suspended Giuliani’s credentials to practice law in the Empire State. Guiliani is temporarily barred from being an attorney “pending final disposition” from the D.C. court.
The former New York City mayor, who peddled election fraud claims as a staunch ally of Trump following the 2020 presidential election, previously had his law license suspended in New York for inaccurate claims about the outcome of the race and violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
RUDY GIULIANI’S LAW LICENSE SUSPENDED IN NEW YORK FOR ‘DEMONSTRABLY FALSE’ ELECTION LIES
The appellate division of the New York Supreme Court concluded there was “uncontroverted evidence” that he “communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at election in 2020.”
The group also wrote in its ruling the statements were made “to improperly bolster” Trump’s “narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States presidential election was stolen from his client.”
Giuliani defended his conduct at the time of the court’s decision.
“The bar association should give me an award,” he told listeners on WABC-AM. “I defended an unpopular client. I’ve been threatened with death. I’ve had a good deal of my income taken away. I’ve lost friends over it.”
“This is happening to shut me up,” he added. “They want Giuliani quiet.”
Trump also came to the Republican’s defense as he called the move a “witch hunt” in a late June tweemail.
“Can you believe that New York wants to strip Rudy Giuliani, a great American Patriot, of his law license because he has been fighting what has already been proven to be a Fraudulent Election?” Trump said.
The former New York City mayor, along with several others, filed several lawsuits alleging widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. Federal courts dismissed the vast majority of these cases.

Giuliani — alongside Sidney Powell, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, and Trump — has been sued by Dominion Voting Systems for defamation regarding claims in the aftermath of the election. Giuliani has also faced a lawsuit from Smartmatic, another voting equipment company, on similar grounds.
Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
