Stimulus update: Hawaiian checks worth up to $300 delayed because of paper shortage

Hawaiians receiving their one-time tax rebate as a paper check will have to wait another week due to paper shortages.

Those who filed their 2021 tax refunds prior to Aug. 31 have all received their rebates, whether as a paper check or a direct deposit. As of Monday, the state’s Department of Taxation sent out 282,887 direct deposits and 6,162 paper checks, amounting to $161,183,700.

Filers have until Dec. 31 to submit their tax returns in order to receive a rebate.

The state said paper stock shortages have prevented them from sending the next round of checks, so the money will be sent out next week, according to Hawaii News Now.

Single filers making under $100,000 annually, and joint filers making $200,000, can expect a $300 rebate. Those making over $100,000 individually or $200,000 jointly will receive a $100 rebate.
