Incoming White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci denied Friday that he had clashed with outgoing press secretary Sean Spicer and chief of staff Reince Priebus by taking the top job in the White House press shop.
“I don’t have any friction with Sean. I don’t have any friction with Reince,” Scaramucci said during his first appearance in the White House briefing room after taking a position as communications director.
“What happens in business is, a lot of the times, you have some rotation in personnel,” Scaramuccis said.
“I would love to have Sean here,” he added. “Sean decided that he thought it would be better to go…His attitude is, Anthony’s coming in, let me clear the slate for Anthony.”
Spicer resigned Friday after Scaramucci took over as communications director. The former press secretary had been performing the duties of communications director since May, and Sarah Sanders, deputy press secretary, had become the primary presence at the daily briefings.
Sanders will become the new press secretary, Scaramucci announced Friday.
“I think this ship is going in the right direction,” Scaramucci said of the White House. “I think we’ve just got to radio signal the direction very, very clearly.”
