NEW YORK (AP) — Prosecutors have charged two New York City correction officers with trafficking cocaine and smuggling oxycodone and contraband into Rikers Island.

Steven Dominguez and Divine Rahming were arraigned Tuesday in Manhattan on conspiracy, bribery and drug possession charges.

They both pleaded not guilty. Defense attorney Peter Troxler says he believes Dominguez is innocent. Rahming’s lawyer hasn’t returned a call. A union spokesman declined comment.

They’ve been indicted following their arrests last month. An inmate and his girlfriend are also charged.

Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan says Dominguez and Rahming met with undercover agents multiple times to exchange drugs and money and were heard discussing deals on their cellphones.

A former jail guard was arrested Monday in similar case.

A Department of Correction spokesman says officials have no tolerance for corruption.
