The Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois announced that actor Jussie Smollett will undergo a mental health assessment following his outburst in court Thursday.
“[Smollett] will be given a comprehensive medical, mental health, and security assessment and will be placed in appropriate housing,” the department announced Thursday.
“I am not suicidal,” Smollett told his sentencing judge several times. Cook County Judge James Linn sentenced him to jail for 150 days in addition to $145,126 in restitution and fines.

“If I did this, then it means that I stuck my fist in the fears of black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBTQ community,” Smollett went on.
“Your Honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this and I am not suicidal. If anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself,” he continued. “And you must all know that. I respect you, your honor. I respect your decision. Jail time. I am not suicidal.”
Smollett was convicted in December on five counts of felony disorderly conduct and acquitted on a sixth for filing a false police report. The Empire actor claimed two men assaulted him, poured bleach onto him, and tied a noose around his neck.

Cook County will also test Smollett for COVID-19 and vaccinate him if he hasn’t been, including a booster shot.
