Hillary Clinton’s refusal to sit down with the State Department’s nonpartisan inspector general is “mind-boggling,” the chairman of the House Oversight Committee said on Wednesday.
“This is very uncommon,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said in an interview on Fox News. “Just look at the universe of just secretaries of state, past and current. [They] all sat down and did interviews with the inspector general. The only one that opted out was Secretary Clinton.
“You have a chance to come clean on this by being interviewed by the inspector general. To refuse to do that is just mind-boggling,” Chaffetz said.
An 83-page report issued earlier in the day by the agency watchdog found that Clinton’s use of a personal server to process classified information as secretary of state had violated department policies. As part of its investigation, the department spoke with current Secretary of State John Kerry and three of Clinton’s predecessors: Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright.
“The only secretary of state who refused to be interviewed, through her counsel, was Secretary Clinton,” Chaffetz said. “You would think that she would voluntarily do this if she wants to get this behind her and she has nothing to hide.”
